Airstream Trade Wind FAQ
What are the dimensions of an Airstream Trade Wind?
The Airstream Trade Wind comes in two floor plans: the 23FB and the 25FB. Both travel trailers are designed for off-grid adventures with a 3-inch lift kit that adds extra ground clearance.
Trade Wind 23FB:
- Exterior Length: 23 feet 11 inches
- Exterior Width: 8 feet
- Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 9 feet 10.5 inches
- Interior Width: 7 feet 7 inches
- Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches
Trade Wind 25FB:
- Exterior Length: 26 feet 2 inches
- Exterior Width: 8 feet 5.5 inches
- Exterior Height (with A/C and Lift Kit): 10 feet
- Interior Width: 8 feet 1 inch
- Interior Height (with A/C): 6 feet 7 inches
- Bed Dimensions: Queen 60 inches x 75 inches or Twin 34 inches x 80 inches
Both layouts offer a choice between a queen bed or twin beds. The twin bed option opens up the center walkway, creating extra room to move around inside. The factory lift kit gives you better ground clearance for exploring rougher terrain, making these trailers perfect for both highway travel and off-road camping.
How many people does an Airstream Trade Wind sleep?
The Trade Wind 23FB sleeps up to four people, while the Trade Wind 25FB sleeps up to five people. Both models include:
- A queen bed (60 inches x 75 inches) or twin beds (34 inches x 80 inches) in the bedroom
- A convertible dinette that transforms into sleeping space
The 23FB features a U-shaped dinette in the front that converts for guests. The 25FB offers more sleeping room with its larger dinette area that can accommodate an extra person. Both floor plans give you flexibility for family trips or hosting friends at the campsite.
What kind of vehicle do I need to tow an Airstream Trade Wind?
To safely tow a Trade Wind, you'll need a vehicle with the right towing power. Here are the important weights:
Trade Wind 23FB:
- Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
- Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 6,300 pounds
Trade Wind 25FB:
- Unit Base Weight: 6,200 pounds (with LP and batteries)
- Hitch Weight: 885 pounds
- GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating): 7,300 pounds
Your tow vehicle should have a towing capacity that exceeds these GVWR numbers. For the 23FB, look for at least 7,000 pounds of towing capacity. For the 25FB, aim for at least 8,000 pounds or more. Most mid-size and full-size trucks, SUVs, and some larger crossovers can handle these weights.
You'll also need a weight distribution hitch system for safe towing. Check your vehicle's owner's manual for its specific towing capacity and what it can handle. When you're not sure, the team at Airstream of San Diego can help match your vehicle to the right Trade Wind model.

Does owning an Airstream Trade Wind make sense living in California?
Absolutely! California is one of the best states for Airstream ownership, and the Trade Wind is especially well-suited for Southern California camping and adventure.
Year-Round Camping: California offers year-round camping opportunities. From beach camping along the coast to desert adventures in Anza-Borrego and mountain getaways in the Sierra Nevada, you can use your Trade Wind in every season. Southern California's mild winters mean you can camp comfortably almost any time of year.
Outdoor Activities: California is home to nine national parks, dozens of state parks, and countless recreation areas. Whether you're surfing in San Diego, hiking in Joshua Tree, or exploring the Eastern Sierra, the Trade Wind fits perfectly into the California outdoor lifestyle.
Off-Grid Capability: The Trade Wind comes standard with 600 watts of solar panels and a massive 810Ah lithium battery bank. This is perfect for California's abundant sunshine and makes it easy to camp off-grid in remote locations. You can run the air conditioner and microwave at the same time without shore power, which is great for warm California days.
Equipment Features: The Trade Wind's 30,000 BTU ducted furnace and air conditioning with heat pump handle California's temperature changes. Local Convenience: With Airstream of San Diego located right in San Marcos, you have local service and support whenever you need it. This makes maintenance, repairs, and upgrades easy throughout your ownership.
